Manoj Jarange Patil fought a long battle for the Maratha community to get reservation. Finally, the state government issued a rule (GR) today to make it happen. This rule defines who qualifies as a relative under the Maratha reservation, including ancestors like fathers, grandfathers, and great-grandfathers, as well as relatives from previous generations through marriages between different castes.

It also includes relationships from same-sex marriages. The government is proposing to change some rules related to issuing caste certificates to ensure this reservation. This proposal will be reviewed by the Maharashtra government after February 16, 2024.
