Chhattisgarh is a state in eastern India. It is bordered on the north and northeast by the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand, on the east by Odisha (Orissa), on the south by Telangana (formerly part of Andhra Pradesh), and on the west by Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Raipur is the state capital. 52,199 square miles of land (135,194 square km). The population was 25,540,196 in 2011.

The state of Chhattisgarh was formed by combining 16 Madhya Pradesh districts that were tightly linked due to language barriers. However, more districts were added later, bringing the total number of districts to 27. This state was established on November 1, 2000, the first day of the new millennium. Apart from Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh’s neighbours include Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Maharashtra, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh. Chhattisgarh’s entire area is estimated to be 135,191 square kilometres. Chhattisgarh stretches from 17 46° to 24 05° latitude in the north, and from 80 15° to 8420° latitude in the east.

The state’s forest cover is 44 percent, reflecting the state’s varied geography. Chhattisgarh comprises around 12% of India’s total forest acreage, demonstrating its tremendous biodiversity and abundance in timber and wild animals.
