The first book tells the story of Parvateesam, a simple guy from Mogaliturru, a small town in Andhra Pradesh. He thinks his town is famous and historic. Parvateesam decides to leave home and become a barrister, facing many challenges with different languages and interacting with people from the outside world in a naive way.

The story covers the years 1850 to 1900, when India was under British rule, and the struggle for independence was just beginning in South India. Parvateesam, feeling taunted by his teacher and friends, believes becoming a barrister is the only way to redeem himself. With very little money, he leaves for England, knowing only Telugu.

He thinks he can take a ship to England from Madras (Chennai), unaware of the hardships he will face on this journey. The book ends with him reaching the shores of England.
