Irregular Verbs

When putting a verb into the past tense or past participle, an irregular verb does not follow the regular inflection, or finish to the word, that is expected.

When a regular verb occurs in the past tense, the usual endings are ‘-d,’ ‘-ed,’ or ‘-ied.’ In the simple past tense, the verb ‘follow’, for example, becomes ‘followed.’ English has a lot of irregular verbs, which is why some people think it’s one of the most difficult languages to learn.
